"I'm not ________ enough."
"I should do better."
"I can’t _______."
Have you ever noticed an inner critic voice relentlessly pushing you but often lacking grace and drowning out your best judgement? You're not alone! We all have this voice, usually showing up with negative self-talk and making us play small.
In my coaching practice, we will often name the critical voice to bring a little levity and reduce the power it holds in our conversations. Personally, I call my inner critic the “drill sergeant” and we are getting much better at cohabiting. Whatever the tone of your inner critic, it is not pleasant to spend too much time with them in the driver’s seat. It will leave you feeling stuck and limited. The good news? You can quiet them and tap into other more resonant voices.
Here's one of my favourite powerful techniques: connect with your future self.
Imagine a future you: confident, successful, achieving your goals. Ask this wise version for advice on your current challenges and decisions. Listen closely to their guidance and wisdom.
This visualization, inspired by Tara Mohr and CTI (https://www.taramohr.com/book/inner-mentor-signup/), can be incredibly transformative and really affirms that we do know what’s best for us if we are willing to listen and go inwards..
Ready to quiet the critic and embrace your wisdom?
Give it a go. Let me know what you learn!
